The LMU Alumni Association is pleased to share the findings from our 2024 alumni insights survey. Whether a recent graduate or a Golden Lion, your feedback has provided us with a deeper understanding of the distinct paths you've taken since graduating and how your experiences during your time at LMU continue to shape your lives and careers.
We've gained invaluable insight into areas where the university excels and others where we can further enhance how we serve you — our Lion alumni. You are and will always be an instrumental voice that shapes the future of LMU and the ways we fortify connections with our global LMU family. Go Lions!
How was the Survey Conducted?
In early 2024, LMU conducted an online survey emailed to all LMU alumni with valid email addresses. Respondents answered questions about their experiences as both students and alumni, their philanthropic relations with the university, and how they continue to stay engaged with the LMU community. The survey results will influence Alumni Association events and programs on and off the bluff.
Who Responded?
LMU received almost four-percent participation in the survey, which exceeded our expectations and averages of similar survey responses. Class years by decades were proportionally represented. The large sample size resulted in a low margin of error of ±1.86%.

How Do Alumni Feel About LMU?
Feelings of affinity are positive overall. LMU alumni outperform national averages on their attitude toward LMU, their sense of loyalty, and their levels of connection to their alma mater.
80.6% of respondents feel that their LMU education prepared them well for their careers.
Alumni are most interested in staying involved with LMU through events in their region; networking with other LMU alumni; and attending university programming with an intellectual, educational, or cultural focus.
How do Alumni Prefer to Hear from LMU?
Email from the Alumni Association was widely cited as the most preferred and effective source of news and information from LMU across all graduation decades. LMU Magazine was the form of communication that alumni felt was the most engaging.

Why Do Alumni Give Back to LMU?
64.3% of LMU alumni stated that supporting the university is among their top three philanthropic priorities.
The top reasons cited by alumni who give to LMU were:
Affinity for the Areas Where Their Gifts Were Directed
Confidence in the Future Vision for the University
Confidence in LMU’s Leadership
Where Do Alumni Prefer to Direct Their Philanthropic Dollars?
84% of respondents indicated that the process of making a gift was easy, but there was also some consensus that LMU could improve donor stewardship through better acknowledgment and recognition for gifts and communications highlighting their impact.
What Limits Alumni Giving?
LMU alumni expressed interest in supporting their alma mater but recognized that certain factors sometimes limited their ability to give back. The top reasons cited by respondents were:

A More Personalized Experience
Alumni are seeking custom, more personalized post-college experiences that reflect their lives and interests. We will continue to develop intellectual, educational, cultural, and career-networking programs that help them feel more engaged with the university today.

Alumni want to hear more of the good news coming from the bluff, especially related to their own LMU experiences. We will use these positive stories to help alumni more deeply engage with LMU, build their pride, and, in doing so, enhance our reputation.

Data creates information. Information leads to insights. Insights inform decisions. We will continue to follow data — including this survey — to identify the best strategies to motivate alumni to stay engaged with and support LMU.
Once a Lion, Always a Lion
From reunions to career networking, alumni want LMU to continually bring Lions together. We will evaluate regular feedback from our alumni to identify ways to connect with even more Lions and create experiences that are both memorable and personally meaningful.
