Tell Us Why this Organization/Cause is Important to You or the Nominee
The Back to School Program holds immense significance for me because, despite my love for film growing up, I never felt there was space for someone like me in the industry. Raised in Los Angeles, I believed that as a first-generation Latina with no connections, there was no place for me in entertainment. If a program like this had existed when I was in school, I might have felt more confident and motivated to pursue my passion earlier.
As a board member, I have several responsibilities, including outreach to schools and programs, serving as a guest speaker, and mentoring students. I reached out to more than 200 schools in the Los Angeles County school district, asking faculty if they would be interested in having a professional from the entertainment industry come to speak to their students. These professionals include actors, producers, directors, writers, and agents who join me to discuss their careers and answer student questions. I also share my own career path and how I entered the film industry.

I encourage students to continually ask themselves: What kind of support system would the younger me have wished for? And what would I do differently? It is crucial to see yourself in the next generation, as they are the future. By giving back and opening doors for those who reflect our own journeys, we can create a thriving, supportive community that endures for generations to come.
