Why this Organization/Cause is Important to You or the Nominee
Carlos Valverde, Ed.D., has been a dedicated advocate for recognizing and celebrating the contributions of the Hispanic community in Culver City. Through his leadership and commitment, the city has officially declared Latino Heritage Month, an important milestone that highlights cultural pride, unity, and representation.
This year, Valverde’s efforts helped inspire Culver City’s first official Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, hosted at the Wende Museum. The vibrant event brought the community together to enjoy music, food, Hispanic-made films, and educational resources, creating a meaningful space for cultural exchange and connection.
Valverde encourages all Lions to engage with and give back to their communities. He believes in the power of education, dialogue, activism, and volunteerism to help build stronger, more inclusive communities for future generations.
As an educator, California Assembly District 55 Delegate, and a member of the Culver City Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee, Valverde leads by example, demonstrating what it means to serve others and make lasting, meaningful contributions.

My work is grounded in firm principles and a deep, genuine concern for the well-being of my community and the people I serve. Community organizing requires persistence, patience, and unwavering commitment — qualities needed in the pursuit of meaningful, lasting change. Social impact and meaningful contributions to the community are made when you stay true to your goals and allow your setbacks to become opportunities.
