FEED THE STREETS LOS ANGELES (FTS)

Tell Us Why this Organization/Cause is Important to You or the Nominee
Feed the Street (FTS) approaches service with passion and care, meeting individual needs while ensuring the community feels supported and loved. The community we serve and the volunteers alongside me are what bring me back every Sunday. Since I began volunteering with FTS three years ago, I have witnessed significant growth in the organization as it addresses the increasing needs of our community. FTS continues to welcome many guests to our dinner service, ensuring it is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Sunday dinners have become a wonderful way to start my week, and I am fortunate to have friends who see the joy it brings me and have chosen to volunteer as well. I firmly believe that small actions and a smile can make a difference, and the FTS volunteers embody that spirit each week.

Share Advice to Guide Students Hoping to Pursue a Career with Social Impact or in Nonprofit Industries
Even if you’ve never volunteered before, there is a cause and a community that is right for you, your personality, and your talents. Even though I knew which cause I was passionate about, I had trial periods with different organizations where I gauged how I could best contribute to certain volunteer or programmatic needs. Knowing how interactive I like to be, I found that FTS was the best match. Being in community with others who are working to uplift certain populations is so empowering; and if you view volunteering just as you do every other commitment, you’ll see how the consistency and relationships you build add such value to your life. And if you’re lucky, you’ll meet some incredible friends along the way.

How Can Others Help or Get Involved
There are several ways to volunteer with or support Feed the Streets. If you want to provide in-person support, FTS serves Sunday dinners in both Hollywood and Downtown LA (Skid Row), serves coffee Tuesday and Thursday mornings on Skid Row, and serves lunch on Fridays in MacArthur Park. They also accept donations and continuously update the FTS Amazon wish lists for those more comfortable supporting from a distance. www.feedthestreets.info
