CALIFORNIA WESTERN COMMUNITY LAW PROJECT

Tell Us Why this Organization/Cause is Important to You or the Nominee
Samantha Sepulveda is currently a law student at California School of Law and was one of 12 students selected for the school's Community Law Project. The program provides individuals in the San Diego area with free legal counsel that they might not otherwise access. This initiative is important because, as Lions, we were taught the value of serving others. It is inspiring to see Sepulveda give back to low-income communities in need of legal advice, aligning with LMU's mission. Her dedication to this role is motivating to others.

Sepulveda, who was a first-generation college student, said, "I know how overwhelming and confusing legal documents can be. The Community Law Project (CLP) allows everyone the opportunity to better understand their legal issues. I volunteer at CLP every Friday at our Rosa Parks location."

"The best advice I can give is not to be intimidated. It can be intimidating to know where to begin when first volunteering. However, once you find something you feel strongly about and start volunteering, ask questions! Learn as much as you can from those who have been there longer."

How Can Others Help or Get Involved
CLP is open to three groups of volunteers: individuals who are local to San Diego and speak another language (and are interested in volunteering as an interpreter); law students who attend CWSL; and attorneys who are local to San Diego (preferably in one of the areas that we have the most client need). Those who are interested can find more information at cwclp.org.
