Tell Us Why this Organization/Cause is Important to You or the Nominee
Sheri Sather ’98 has been working with her son, Justin Sather, since he was in kindergarten on environmental projects. Together, they have completed several projects with Loyola Marymount University. Now in eighth grade, Justin's environmental efforts have evolved significantly, from helping frogs at the local Ballona Wetlands to protecting 100 acres of rainforest in Ecuador.

Justin has also addressed the global plastic pollution crisis, starting by teaching his classmates to reduce plastic use and collaborating with students worldwide on initiatives to raise awareness and drive change. They have also supported efforts to bring Boyan Slat's Interceptor boat to Ballona Creek. Now, Justin and his family are seeking to partner with businesses to promote a healthier planet, encouraging people to spend time outdoors and purchase sustainable products.

Share Advice to Guide Students Hoping to Pursue a Career with Social Impact or in Nonprofit Industries
"You have to love what you're doing, be creative, think with your mind and heart, and then ultimately you just need to decide what difference you want to make in the world and do it. Don't get distracted or let any obstacle get in your way. There will be plenty of hardships along the way so stay optimistic even when you want to give up. " – Sheri Sather

"My hope is to inspire other people to create positive change they hope to see in the world. I believe one idea can change the world if you start off small, take chances, and be brave. You have to be creative, use your imagination, be innovative, and engineer the environment to recreate the world you envision."  – Justin Sather
